BioTech + Art

The idea of BioArt is often times a pretty controversial topic and practice. The idea that people are creating art with living organisms while using scientific processes such as biotechnology is an idea that some people cannot wrap their head around. This practice is used to shed light on "societal, philosophical, and environmental issues and can help enhance public understanding of advances in biotechnology and genetic engineering,"as stated by Ahmet F.

Researchers and these scientific artists have to defend their work due to the criticism of people saying that their work is animal cruelty. There are two sides to the story but in my eyes if they are not injuring or affecting the animal in anyway then I don't believe that there is a problem with this newly transformed art. I think that the art can only be beneficial in ways that people must have to understand.

Taking a deeper look into BioTech, I noticed that this show on Netflix I have watched called Black Mirror touches on some advancements that could come in the later future. The show has numerous different examples of future advancements but one in particular would be the DNA manipulation. This is another topic that touches on BioTech and one that was portrayed in this show.

Overall, there are so many ideas that fall into BioTech and art but it is going to be based on the public to view them and take them into accountability and take action in changing things. I believe that these ideas of BioArt and DNA manipulation are new and must be improved but it will be up to the people to see whether they will take it and use it or keep things normal.

Comments

  1. I really enjoyed the black mirror reference. I thought this was particularly interesting because it puts perspective into other people's minds, such as living things. I think the DNA or bio-art manipulation is a bit interesting and is very controversial.

  2. Wassup Byrce, I enjoy reading your blog because I made a blog post of the similiar topic and hearing your prespective on it made me learn even more about it. I also recognized that you used an black mirror comparison and analogy to connect to what your talking about.
